Any players just jumping in wull be learning that there are certain quirks and mechanics within the game that might be difficult for a new player to get used to. There are some survival tips that new players need to know, despite being obvious for veteran players.
7 Build a Fire Quickly
Building a fire will be extremely important for the first few hours of game play. As a player gets colder, their maximum health will decrease, and a fire will keep them warm. It’s relatively easy to build a campfire, as wood (the main ingredient) is easy to find in Savage Lands.
In a pinch, a player could also eat cooked meat to keep their health up, but it is most recommended for a player to use a camp fire in order to keep the player’s max health up. Build a fire as often and soon as possible, to increase HP.
6 Learn How to Dual Wield
Dual wielding is a great thing to enact during combat, as it will help a player to clear out large swathes of enemies as soon as possible. Dual wielding increases the speed and the amount of damage that a player does, since they are now wielding two weapons.

To dual wield, hold the left and the right mouse button at the same time. With this, a player can mow down enemies with those two weapons.
5 Patience is Key
It may sound obvious at first, but patience is an important trait to have while playing Savage Lands. It is not an in-game trait, but something a player must have oneself. At first, game play will be a bit slow, but that is okay.
Players will have to collect a lot of resources and gather supplies within the game if they want to progress. Results won’t be instant, but with enough patience and determination, it will pay off in the end.
4 Stand On Rocks To Get Away From Short-Range Enemies
It’s inevitable that a player will get swarmed by enemies at some point during the game, especially if they’re new. If there are too many monsters and the player does not have enough weapons or resources to fight, it will always result in a bad time. However, players should be able to escape these situations quickly.

By climbing onto a rock or entering an abandoned building, a player can get away from short-ranged enemies for a decent amount of time, which can give them a moment to breathe and prepare. They will have to be more careful against long-ranged enemies, which aren’t affected by the climb.
3 Play Around With Crafting
Crafting is an integral part of Savage Lands, and it would benefit a player to learn more about how this system works. Crafting will let a player create more tools and armor, along with things like bags for a larger inventory, and all sorts of other items that can benefit a player. There isn’t any specific item that works best with experimentation — all materials are useful, so a player can just mess around with what’s in their inventory.
Crafting isn’t too simple in Savage Lands, so it may take a bit of experimenting for players to get to know what they’re doing. Don’t get discouraged, though; the main point of Savage Lands is exploration and trying to figure out how things work, so players should spend time crafting.
2 Learn More About Hunting
Hunting is the main combat of Savage Lands, so players should take some time to figure out how battle works. There are multiple debuffs to watch out for — such as Bleeding or being Diseased — but it is also worth noting that a player needs to hunt to acquire materials.
Materials are used to craft all sorts of items in Savage Lands, and as mentioned above, crafting is an important part of the game. Thus, it’s essential to not only learn how to hunt, but how to hunt properly. Players should make an effor to learn what creatures drop what kinds of items that they need for a specific goal, such as getting pelt to make a bag. This can take some trial and error, but players can pick up the ropes fairly quickly.
1 Remember There is No Map
One of the most brutal functions of Savage Lands is that there is no map. It’s easy to get lost within the world, and a player won’t have anything to lead them back except for instincts, or remembering how they were lured there.
There are fan-made maps of the area online, so if a player gets particularly lost, they can seek them out. Apart from that, though, a player needs to remember which directions they travel in, and how to get back to their original spot should they end up getting lost.
Savage Lands is available on PC.
