Although the controls of Tormented Souls are modernized for survival horror, the gameplay is considered to be quite different from a modern-day survival horror game (not to mention that the player’s ability to save is limited throughout game-play). Considering that, some people may want to have a few beginner tips on hand before they start the game up. Here’s what to keep in mind.
7 Don’t Stop Killing
One of the biggest difficulties a player can face while playing Tormented Souls is the fact that enemies are everywhere, and they are difficult to avoid. Players can try to avoid them for as long as possible, but the game does require a lot of backtracking.

Although the monsters can technically be avoided, it’s very inefficient. Instead, players should just kill any enemy they come across. It’s a bit of pain in the short-run, but will make gameplay much more efficient in the long run, especially during the back-tracking parts.
6 Keep The Lighter Equipped, Unless Fighting Enemies
The lighter is going to be the player’s best item to use, because it will light up the surrounding area and ensure that there isn’t a monster bounding towards the player. It’s worth nothing a player can walk into complete darkness at any second, so light is their best friend.
A player will only have a few seconds to equip and use their lighter before they die, so they’ll need to be fast. The lighter isn’t a tool the player should sleep on; it could be the difference between life and death.
5 Save Tapes Become More Common Later On
Save tapes are used in order to save a player’s progress during Tormented Souls. During the beginning of the game, they are particularly hard to find, and a player might be tempted to hold onto them for as long as possible.
Rest assured, though, players willbe able to find more save tapes later on in the game. They will become more common, giving players more chances to save the further on they progress within the game. Players can hold onto their tapes, but it’s not necessary.
4 Exit a Room to Cause the Monster to De-Spawn
There are times when players won’t exactly be able to fully finish off the monster once and for all. Whether their weapon isn’t the best, they’re out of ammo, or facing other debilitating circumstances, there will be occasions when the best course of action is to run from a randomly-generated monster.

Luckily, the monsters that are generated at random (as opposed to ones that are purposely placed) will de-spawn once the player leaves the room. Don’t worry about fighting these particular monsters — players should save their own skins.
3 The Good Ending Requires a Certain Item
There is a good ending that a player can achieve within Tormented Souls. However, it does require the player to pick up a certain item before they enter the point of no return. Granted, this point does come very late in the game.
In the office, the player can go down a ladder to find a particular puzzle. After solving the puzzle, the player will then be rewarded with the item necessary achieve the good ending. It’s easy to miss, though a player can back-track.
2 Combine Ammo with the Gun to Reload
There are multiple different ways to reload guns within Tormented Souls, such as the classic “reloading after running out of ammo from shooting monsters.” However, players have figured out a much quicker way to reload the gun after shooting. Don’t worry, no cheats are required.
By combining the ammo with the gun in the player’s inventory, the gun will reload. This method is much faster than manually reloading it. On top of this, enemies won’t attack players when they’re reloading via the inventory. This can give a player a moment to breathe before getting back into the game.
1 The Game’s Clock Keeps Running, Even if it’s Paused
This may not seem like much to most people, but even when paused, the game’s clock won’t stop running. For people who want to gain the speed-running achievement, this is going to be one of the hardest things that will block them from gaining that.
With the game clock running even when the game itself is paused, players won’t have much time to pull up a guide to reference in order to get the achievement. Either memorize the game enough to run through as fast as possible, or take notes along the way to help speed up the process.
Tormented Souls is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5.
