All of this to say, there’s a lot going for Psychonauts 2. Fans of the game have already figured out some of the game’s many hidden secrets – and die-hard fans of the Psychonauts series have noticed details throughout the sequel that call back to the original, too.

7 Is that… Pregnant Raz?

In what is possibly the strangest easter egg in a video game of all time, players are able to find a short alternative intro created and narrated by none other than Pendleton Ward that shows… pregnant Raz. That’s right – the creator of Adventure Time made a secret mpreg comic in Psychonauts 2.

To find this easter egg, head to the Maternity Ward, travel to the top of the ventilation pipe opposite the gigantic circular neon sign, and use telekinesis to lob a pike at the end of the vent at the gigantic sign. Instantly, the comic animatic will start to play – and without spoiling too much, it’s a lot to take in.

6 Eddie Riggs Makes A Cameo

Eddie Riggs is the infamous main character of the acclaimed heavy metal game Brutal Legend. Brutal Legend was, of course, developed by Double Fine all the way back in 2009. While Jack Black’s iconic character doesn’t make an appearance, his outfit does.

After implanting a brain in Nick, use clairvoyance on the brain to see Raz through Nick’s eyes. Raz won’t be wearing his typical clothing, instead, he appears to don the same leather and spike-clad outfit of Riggs. It disappears the moment clairvoyance is ended, and there’s no way to make it Raz’s permanent look, unfortunately.

5 The Band Finally Has A Name

Phoebe and Quentin were the dynamic duo seen in the first game always practicing on-stage at the lodge. They are shown trying to settle on a good band name, with stickers for the Firestarters and the Levitators on the drum set, based on both Phoebe and Quentin’s psychic specialties.

Unfortunately, Raz is unable to help them come to a consensus. In Psychonauts 2, though, there’s a poster for a band called the Firestarters in the treehouse. It seems that they decided it was a bit more bombastic than the Levitators.

4 The Game’s Intro Has A Mistake

At the very start of the game there’s a short animatic video that recaps what happened in the previous Psychonauts games, including Rhombus of Ruin. It shows Raz, Oleander, Sasha, Milla, and Ford running to begin the rescue of Truman Zanotto, Lili’s Father.

However, at the end of the original Psychonauts Ford is taken “out of commission” meaning that he couldn’t take part in this rescue, seeing as the second game picks up right at the end of the first. In fact, Lili was supposed to be there, but wasn’t shown for reasons unknown.

3 Punching Props In Fatherland Follies

In the Fatherland Follies level, there is a callback to the original Psychonauts, specifically a voice line Raz has in the introductory segment of the game. Right after the first area in Fatherland Follies, there appears to be a portal door hidden a little off to the side.

There are lots of destructible props past this door, and when Raz destroys them he says “punch punch punch!” This is a reference to the beginning of the first game when Clem and Crystal are encouraging Raz in an Oleander minigame. They constantly say “punch punch punch!” over and over again. Thankfully, the weirdest couple in the game gets blown up seconds later.

2 Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Is A Figment

Figments in both Psychonauts and Psychonauts 2 are collectible items throughout each level that show the person’s state of mind, personality, fears, and more. Most of these figments are not too noteworthy, though each one does have its own unique appearance.

There is one found in Cassie’s Collection that directly references author Terry Pratchett and his Discworld series of novels. The figment shows the earth as a flat disc being held aloft by a gigantic turtle, and at the bottom, the word “PRATCHETT” is spelled out.

1 Elyse and James Willems Make A Cameo

There are fans of Psychonauts and there are mega-fans of Psychonauts – then, there’s James Willems. James Willems, a founding member of the gaming YouTube channel Funhaus, is perhaps the biggest fan of the series in the world. He and his wife Elyse Willems, another integral part of Funhaus, got the chance to do voice work for the game.

During the casino level, Raz can find a Rich Dad and Rich Mom with black and white skeletal heads. They don’t like to talk about being rich, though, and Raz awkwardly shuffles off when they start talking about how it’ll be nice to have a set of spare kidneys around the house with their new… “baby”. James has since said the experience was one of the coolest things he’s ever done.
