In honor of Dr. Phil’s 70th birthday, here are some standout moments from the television personality’s show.
Sexy Vegan
This man legally changed his name to Sexy Vegan, and had it tattooed on his forehead. Vegan was known for walking the streets of Hollywood wearing a Speedo or tiny shorts. He appeared on the show after his sister was fed up with his behavior. Vegan also claimed to have been arrested over a dozen times, but bailed out by his mother each incident without fail.
Teacher/Student affair
29-year old high school teacher Tanya Ramirez didn’t think she did anything “legally” wrong after having an affair with her 17-year-old student Tristan. The student hid his phone and recorded them having sex, and the video went viral. Ramirez was then suing Tristan over the video over invasion of privacy and emotional distress and Kim for defamation.
“The Virgin Mary”
Haley believed she was pregnant (despite negative tests and doctors telling her otherwise) with baby Jesus, and that rapper Eminem was the father. She appeared on Dr. Phil’s show in 2016 to receive an ultrasound, which came out negative. “My family, my friends, my pastors at church, they don’t believe that I’m pregnant,” Haley admitted. “I know it’s Jesus. I don’t care if my family disowns me. It really comes down to if you’re a true believer in Jesus or not.” Haley (whose last name has not been disclosed) still believed she was pregnant. Dr. Phil sent her to an inpatient treatment facility. After her time there she admitted she wasn’t pregnant on a later episode. She chalked up her pregnancy to be stomach gas.
Shelley Duvall
Dr. Phil invited retired actress Duvall (The Shining) onto his show in 2016. Her appearance drew lots of criticism, as the actress was not doing well. “I’m very sick. I need help,” Duvall had told Dr. Phil. She claimed that the late Robin Williams, who she starred in Popeye with in 1980, was not dead. Duvall said that Williams was shapeshifting. “He looks real good in some forms, in other forms he doesn’t,” she noted. After the episode aired, Dr. Phil received backlash. Ronan Farrow and Stanley Kubrick’s daughter, Vivan, called for fans to boycott the episode.
I’m in Love with Kip Moore
Jenna had an unhealthy obsession with the country star, and even filed a divorce from her husband of eight years because of it. “It was without a doubt after the second concert that I wanted to divorce my husband,” she gushed in her reel shown before her appearance. The couple appeared on Dr. Phil to talk about their relationship, and Jenna’s husband called her delusional. Moore did acknowledge the super fan during an interview at the 49th Annual CMA Awards, saying he wished them the best. However, he has no plans to watch the Dr. Phil episode (and we can’t blame him).
Spoiled 19-year-old Girl
Cherylyn spent hundreds of thousands of dollars of other people’s money. During her appearance, she said that she maxed out her 17 credit cards on designer shoes, handbags, purses, clothes, makeup, and pampering. In Cherylyn’s reel, she also spoke about which expensive cars she prefers and her 189 lipsticks. Her mom claimed that she spent $130,000 in less than a year, and Cherylyn defended her entitled and careless behavior during her appearance.
And, of course, Cash Me Outside
In September 16, Danielle Bregoli first appeared on “Dr. Phil” in the episode, “I Want To Give Up My Car-Stealing, Knife-Wielding, Twerking 13-Year-Old Daughter Who Tried To Frame Me For A Crime.” Bregoli claimed she stole cars and credit cards, and when she was vexed by the live audience’s laughter, she dropped her now memeable phrase: “Cash me outside, how about that?” Since her appearances on Dr. Phil’s show, she became a singer/songwriter under the name Bhad Bhabie, and has her own Snapchat reality show, Bringing Up Bhabie.
